SA: More work bans at auto parts maker
ADELAIDE, Aug 5 AAP - Workers at an automotive parts supplier in Adelaide are set toimpose work bans in an ongoing dispute over a pay and entitlements claim.
Production staff at Henderson's Automotive, which supplies seating components to Australia'scar makers, will impose the overtime bans from midnight.
The members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) took similar action last month.
They also went on strike for 24 hours, a move which forced Adelaide-based car producerMitsubishi to close its assembly operation for a day.
Mitsubishi said it would monitor the latest action but was not concerned at this stage.
The AMWU wants Henderson's to set up an adequate trust fund to protect workers' entitlementsand to also improve on a four per cent pay rise.
Union spokesman Tim Murray said Henderson's was trying to disrupt the unity of itsexisting workforce by employing contractors during the enterprise bargaining period.
"They've engaged the services of a large number of contractors employed by SkilledEngineering and the company has not consulted with the unions or the workplace representatives,"
Mr Murray said.
Also tomorrow Henderson's was expected to ask the Industrial Relations Commission tocancel the enterprise bargaining period, effectively making the work bans illegal.
