QLD:Uranium: unfinished business for Labor

A mining organisation says the world will increase its use of uranium for power generation
.. and the Queensland government and Labor should take advantage of the inevitable.

The Queensland Resources Council says the state has known uranium resources of around
61 million kilos .. worth around 10 billion dollars.

QRC head MICHAEL ROCHE says Queensland's failure to open uranium mines is unfinished
business from the 2007 ALP national conference .. which backed the mining of uranium ..

but left it up to the states to decide whether to do so.

Mr ROCHE says Australia's abundance of coal and gas .. and renewable resources probably
means the nation won't build nuclear power stations for the foreseeable future .. but
could provide uranium for peaceful purposes to other nations.
