Fed: The Xmas-New Year road toll climbs to 37
Two men have been killed on the nation's roads today .. taking the national holiday
road toll to 37.
In the latest incident .. a man's died after the car he was driving hit a power pole
in Sydney's west .. about 1.15 this afternoon.
Police say the driver failed to stop for officers in Canley Heights .. who then followed
the car but stopped for safety reasons.
The car was found on the corner of Humphries and King Roads in Canley Heights a short time later.
Earlier today a 71-year-old man died after his car veered into a tree in Melbourne's outer north.
The accident happened in Woodstock .. west of Whittlesea .. just after eight this morning.
The Ford Falcon sedan had been travelling south on Merriang Road when it hit a tree
just south of Donnybrook Road.
Fourteen people have been killed on New South Wales roads this Christmas-New Year period.
Nine have died in Victoria .. eight in Queensland .. while two people have been killed
in Western Australia .. Tasmania and South Australia.
